Four Beautiful Towns of France & Germany----a photo essay

Image
Four Lovely neighbours of Heidelberg Four lovely neighbours of Heidelberg A pictorial journey   Wyssembourg, France Wyssembourg is a small town in France. It is on the border with Germany and not far from Heidelberg, Germany's university town. We had taken a train that touched Mannheim and Landau on the way. When the train pulled up at Wyssembourg station, an almost empty platform soaked by drizzles preceding our arrival greeted us. An absolute beauty! Right from there it was a comfortable saunter through a picturesque, pretty, clean and graceful little town. I was so awed that even this potpourri of adjectives is not enough to describe the photogenic French town. A little river Lauter flows through the town. It is so small and so narrow that on first view it gives an impression of a narrow canal flowing through the town. Not far from its larger counterpart Strasbourg, this cute town is rich in history. SULTANPUR BIRD Sanctuary About 15 km from my house in Gurgaon lays the famous Sultanpur bird sanctuary. Before it attained the status of National Wildlife Sanctuary it was known as Sultanpur Jheel. Peter Jackson, a famous ornithologist stumbled upon it in the seventies and decided to pursue the Indian government to convert it into an exclusive reserve for birds. Finally in the eighties the jheel attained the national status of bird sanctuary. The sanctuary is situated on the way to Farruknagar in Haryana. From Gurgaon it is the road which runs almost parallel to the road leading to Pataudi, the princely estate of late Mansoor Ali Khan -- ‘Tiger Pat’ to cricket lovers all over the world. The sanctuary used to be a favorite haunt for late Dr Salim Ali, the greatest ornithologist of all times. Haryana is a state where one gets the chance to see the rarest of birds, compared to all other states in India . Haryana Tourist Lodges  are all  named after birds , like ‘Jungle B...

SOME LOVABLE VISITORS TO OUR HOUSE

Image
I love nature. To work and live in a congested city and still embrace nature is a piece of luck. Its like hitting the jackpot. I hit it when I shifted to a new address about three years back. Close to the hustle bustle of a city yet far from the madding crowd. Nestled in abundance of nature. Close to Sultanpur Bird sanctuary in Haryana watching a wide variety of birds sitting in the comfort of ones house is definitely a rare piece of luck. My wife Ruby has made bird watching a hobby. She has captured some beautiful moments in the verandah of our house. Enjoy these.
